South Sudan to face Uganda in 2020 CHAN qualifiers
The Bright Stars of South Sudan will battle Uganda Cranes in the first round of the 2020 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
In the draws conducted today at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, the Bright Stars will host the first leg before traveling to Uganda for the return leg.
The winner over two legs will battle the winner between Rwanda and Somalia in round two. CAF has also communicated that the dates for the games to be played will be announced later.
The other pairings in the Central East Zone will see Tanzania facing Sudan, while Kenya battle Burundi. Eritrea and Djibouti did not enter the qualifiers.
“The format of the competition remains unchanged and will be played on a zonal basis to determine the finalists for Ethiopia,” said the CAF communication.
Forty-seven teams will engage in the qualifiers to determine the 15 teams that qualify to join automatic qualifiers Ethiopia who are the hosts.
According to the format two teams will qualify from the northern, Western A and Central East Zones, while three each qualify from the Western B, Central and Southern Zones.
