The U-17 Total
Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) kicked off on Sunday with two matches on card in
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Wiyual Lam
represented the South Sudan Football Association (SFA) President Francis Amin
Michael at the opening ceremony at the National Stadium.
“I am glad
that I have had the chance to represent South Sudan at this big tournament
coming to our region,†said Wiyual Lam, also the Chairman of the Organizing Committee
at SSFA.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Tanzania Prime Minister of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa as the chief guest, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad together with some of his executive Committee members Eng Moses Magogo (Uganda), Suleiman Waberi (Djibouti), Leodegar Tenga (Tanzania) among others.
Nigeria
stopped Tanzania 5-4 in the opening Group A match, while Angola defeated Uganda
Cubs 1-0 in the second game.
The U-17 Afcon that kicked off on April 14th will climax on April 28th. The best two teams from each of the two groups will qualify to represent Africa at the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Brazil later this year.
