Cecafa awaits Atlabara FC in Kagame Cup
The Secretary General of the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA), Nicholas Musonye has said they are happy that Atlabara FC qualified to represent South Sudan in the Kagame Cup.
Top sides in the regional will battle in the regional Kagame Club Championship slated for July 7-21st in Kigali, Rwanda.
“I am happy that we now have a League champion from South Sudan who will play in the Kagame Cup. This tournament will help them prepare well ahead of the CAF Champions League,” added Musonye.
The Juba based Atlabara FC lifted the South Sudan Club Champions League on June 12th after coming out top in the final phase against Al-Gadishia FC and Al-Hilal.
“We are happy that a South Sudan team will use the Kagame Cup to garner more exposure on the road to becoming a stronger team,” he added.
Already Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC, Gor Mahia FC (Kenya), Rayon Sport FC, APR FC (Rwanda) and defending champions Azam FC have confirmed participation. The other nations expected to send their top sides include; Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea.
“We are also in talks with a Zambian Premier League side to come and spice up the tournament as guests,” added Musonye.
