South Sudan to face Burundi in Total Africa Nations Championship qualifier
The South Sudan national football team, Bright Stars will now face Burundi in the first round of 2020 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) made the changes in the revised fixture sent to the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA).
Burundi will host South Sudan in the first leg to be played between July 26-28 before the return leg between August 2-4. South Sudan was meant to battle Uganda in the earlier fixture released two months ago.
The winner beteen South Sudan and Burundi will face the winner between Uganda and Somalia in the final round of the qualifiers. The other fixtures in the CECAFA region will see Djibouti face Ethiopia, while Tanzania battle Kenya.
The CHAN tournament is played between players featuring in the local leagues in their respective countries. Cameroon will host the 2020 CHAN competition.
According to the format of CHAN qualifiers two teams will qualify from the northern, Western A and Central East Zones, while three each qualify from the Western B, Central and Southern Zones.
Morocco are the defending champions of the CHAN after beating Nigeria 4-0 in the final last year.
