Coach Besong happy with team attitude ahead of crucial Equatorial Guinea tie
South Sudan’s head coach Ashu Cyprian Besong has said he is happy with the attitude of his players ahead of the crucial FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea.
The Bight Star will host Equatorial Guinea in the first leg on September 4th at the Al-Hilal Stadium in Khartoum, Sudan.
“I am happy with the positive attitude of the players and the fact that many of them are playing together for the first time. Our build-up game against Sudan’s U-23 team that we won 1-0 few days ago helped us assess several aspects,” said Besong.
The coach made it clear that the players are now getting used to the new system he wants them to play.
“Goal scoring will come with time because all this comes with practice. But we shall have to be at our best and take chances against Equatorial Guinea,” added the coach.
He pointed out that some players are still a little nervous. “But I am not worried because the attitude is good. We are still in a building process but getting a win before going to Equatorial Guinea will be very vital,” he added.
The Bright Star are among the 28 teams in Africa that will battle in the preliminary round of the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The 14 teams that qualify from the preliminary stage will join the top 26 ranked CAF teams and will be drawn into ten groups of four teams each. The leaders of each group will qualify for the final round of the qualifiers.
