Increase in Women African Cup of Nations to start 2020
The increase in the number of teams that qualify for the Women African Cup of Nations is expected to start in 2020.
Previously only eight teams took part in the Women African Cup of Nations, but the executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during a meeting in July this year increased the number to 12.
In a communication issued by CAF Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe he said the increase will also be effective for U-17 and U-20 African Cup of Nations.
“Kindly note that the increase of the teams will be applied for the 2020 edition of the Women African Cup of Nations and the 2021 editions of the U-17 and U-20 Africa Cup of nations,” said the communication.
The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) made it clear early this year that they will start a women’s League in 2020. “We hope that in a few years we shall have a strong women’s team and also make sure we build the youth teams,” said Francis Amin Michael, the SSFA President.
