CECAFA U-20 CHALLENGE CUP: We are ready to prove a point – Simon James Yor
Head coach of South Sudan’s U-20 team Simon James Yor has said his team is prepared to put-up a good show at the regional Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup which kicks off on Saturday in Uganda.
The South Sudan team arrived in the Industrial Town of Jinja on Wednesday night and are accommodated at Nile Hotel.
“We have tried to prepare the team well enough and we are ready to prove a point in this tournament,” said Yor.
South Sudan will start their Group C campaign against Burundi on Sunday at the Fufa Technical Centre ground, Njeru.
The coach made it clear that it will be very important to start the tournament with a win. “We are three teams in the group which means we must work hard and win the opening match,” added the coach.
Yor’s team will face Somalia in the last group game on September 26th. The best two teams in Group C will join the best three in Group A and B for the quarter finals.
The Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup financed by FIFA has will attract 11 teams. Rwanda did not enter their team because of a busy schedule.
Nicholas Musonye, the secretary general of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) said Musonye said they expect a very competitive tournament.
Group A – Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti
Group B – Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zanzibar
Group C – Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia
