In-form Gumnok leads South Sudan’s U-20 team in crucial tie against Somalia
Striker Dani Lual Gumnok will this afternoon lead South Sudan’s team in their last Group C match at the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup in Njeru, Uganda.
Gumnok who netted a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw against Burundi in the opening match has vowed to work hard to help his team stop Somalia and qualify for the quarter finals.
“We made some mistakes in the opening match. But we have continued to prepare and we are ready to put up a better show against Somalia,” added the towering striker.
He made it clear that he is hungry to score more goals that will propel the South Sudan team to success. Head coach Simon James Yor also made it clear that they must be very cautious against a high passing team like Somalia.
“We need to try and get early goals so that we can kill of the game early,” added the South Sudan coach.
Somalia’s coach Bashir Hayford said his team is aware they must win if they hope to qualify for the knock out stage. “We must try to be at our best because we lost our first game to Burundi,” added the coach from Ghana.
Burundi have already qualified for the quarter finals, while one more team from the group will book a place in the knock out stage. The other teams that have already qualified include; Uganda, Sudan, Tanzania and Kenya.
The quarter finals will all be played on September 29th at the Fufa Technical center in Njeru and the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.
