CECAFA U-20 CHALLENGE CUP: South Sudan to face Sudan in quarter final clash
The stage is set South Sudan will face their brothers from Sudan in the first quarter final match at the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup in Uganda on Sunday.
Handled by coach Simon James Yor, the South Sudan team came top of Group C after picking a 3-all draw against Burundi in the opening match and a convincing 3-0 win over Somalia on Wednesday.
They will face Sudan who came second in Group A after beating Djibouti 4-0 and drawing against Eritrea 3-3 and Uganda Hippos 2-2.
However, the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) will announce later on Thursday evening where all the quarter final games will be played. “Let us wait for the final group games to be played then we shall sit and decide which games the Fufa technical Center Stadium and the Pece War Memorial Stadium will host,” said Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary general.
But coach Simon James Yor has made it clear that facing Sudan will be a tough test because they have a good team. “We shall prepare well in the remaining few days so that the team is ready to give a good account at the quarter final stage,” added the coach.
On Thursday the last group games will be played at the Fufa technical Center Stadium between Kenya and Ethiopia, while Zanzibar face Tanzania in the second game.
All the quarter final matches will be played on September 29th, while the semi finals are slated for October 2nd and the play-off and final on October 5th.
