South Sudan’s
Dani Lual Gumnok is among the top six leading scorers as the Cecafa U-20
Challenge Cup heads to the quarter final stage.
A record 56
goals have been scored in the 15 games played in the group stage with three
players having scored four goals, while Gumnok’s hat-trick against Burundi places
him among the top six.
Gumnok will
be hoping to increase his tally when South Sudan face Sudan in one of the
quarter final matches at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu on Sunday.
“I am hungry
to score more goals in the knock out stage. We are happy to make it to the quarter
final stage and we shall work hard to try and eliminate Sudan,” added Gumnok.
Kenya’s
Sydney Lokale, Yoseif Mawei Tesfai (Eritrea) and the Tanzanian duo of Kelvin
Pius John and Andrew Albart Simchimba are the leading scorers with four goals each.
Gumnok together with Sudan’s Mohamad Abbas Namir and Uganda’s Steven Bogere
have three goals each.
The other
quarter final matches in this FIFA sponsored tournament will see Eritrea face
Zanzibar, while Tanzania take on Uganda Hippos and Burundi battle against
Kenya.
