2021 AFCON QUALIFIERS: Seychelles head coach Mak wary of Bright Star
The head coach of Seychelles, Jan Mak has said facing South Sudan in the first round preliminary round of the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Khartoum will be no easy task.
South Sudan will host the Seychelles Pirates this evening at the Al- Merriekh Stadium in Khartoum.
“We know South Sudan is an improving team and playing them in Khartoum will not be that easy. But we need to make sure we defend well enough and also plan our attacks well,” said the Dutch born veteran coach.
Seychelles will be eager to improve their performance following the miserable 10-0 aggregate loss to Rwanda in the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
But South Sudan’s head coach Cyprian Ashu has called on his players and go play the match like a Cup final. “We need to play good football and get a good result before the return leg on October 15th,” added Ashu.
The coach said they must be very cautious in defending, but also make sure they take the scoring opportunities in-front of goal. “The FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea helped my players get good tuning and I think they are in good shape now,” added the coach.
The other preliminary matches to be played today will see Liberia face Chad, while Djibouti host Gambia and Mauritius take on Sao Tome & Principe.
