President of
the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), Francis Amin Michael has said a
tough mission awaits the national team in the group stage of the 2021 Total
Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.
The Bright
Star ejected Seychelles 3-1 on aggregate on Sunday in Victoria to qualify for
the group stage of the qualifiers.
South Sudan
are now placed in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Uganda and Malawi. But Amin
made it clear that although the Bright Star proved that the national team is
getting better, there is a lot of work to be done.
“We have
very tough teams in the group and this makes the mission a very tough one. But
we shall work hard to try and make history by qualifying for 2021 Afcon,” added
Amin.
He called upon
the government of South Sudan and the private investors to come in and finance
the national teams. “When our teams perform we all get the credit as people of
South Sudan,” he added.
Amin went on
to than the national coach Cyprian Ashu and the technical bench, the players
and the Board of Directors of SSFA for a job well done to ensure the team
qualifies for the group stage of the qualifiers.
In the group stage of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers South Sudan lost all the six games to Mali, Gabon and Burundi.
