CECAFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP: Burundi stand in South Sudan’s way
South Sudan will today face Burundi in their last Group A match at the on-going 2019 Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The match is a must win for Coach Simon James Yor’s team if they hope to re-write history and make it to the semi finals.
In the opening match the debut making South Sudan team were given a rude welcome losing 9-0 to defending champions Tanzania, before going back to the drawing board to win 5-0 against Zanzibar.
“First of all we are happy to be playing in our first Women’s tournament. We shall try our best to win against Burundi although we know it will be a difficult match,” said Yor.
Amy Lasu Luaya Lasu who netted a brace in the win against Zanzibar has said the team is motivated to go all out and battle for a win. “We are now more determined after we got a win against Zanzibar,” added Lasu.
Burundi’s coach Daniella Niyibimenya made it clear that the match against South Sudan is like a final to them. “We need to go out and play well to win because our target is to get to the final,” she added.
The regional tournament partly sponsored by FIFA will climax on November 25th with the play-off for third place and the final.
