South Sudan teams to pitch camp in Uganda ahead of CECAFA tourneys
South Sudan’s national men’s team and the the U-17 women’s team will camp in Uganda ahead of the CECAFA tournaments that take place next month.
Francis Amin Michael, President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) said on Thursday that the two teams will first camp in Uganda. “We think it is better that the two teams camp and train better in Uganda before the tournaments start,” added Amin.
The CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup will take place December 7-19th in the Ugandan capital Kampala, while the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup takes place December 9-18th in Njeru, Uganda.
Amin made it clear that South Sudan will be determined to perform well since the men’s competition also carries points for FIFA ranking. The Bright Star are pooled in Group B alongside guest side Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Somalia.
The tournament which will climax the 2019 season will attract 12 teams including defending champions Kenya. “We expect a very competitive competition for the men because most of the teams have improved,” said Nicholas Musonye, the CECAFA Secretary general.
