South Sudan champions Atlabara FC yet to confirm participation in Kagame Cup

The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has said South Sudan League champions Atlabara FC have not confirmed if they will take part in the Kagame Cup.

Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary general of the regional body made it clear on Wednesday that Atlabara FC is among the teams that are yet to confirm.

The regional tournament supported by the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame is slated for July 6-21st.

“We shall have the are draws made on Friday in Kigali and once we make the draws the teams that have not confirmed will unfortunately be left out,” said Musonye.

He said the matches will take place in Kigali City, Rubavu and Huye Districts to enable the citizens of Rwanda and neighbouring countries watch the matches.

“This tournament serves to give our clubs in the region an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup which start immediately after the Kagame cup,” added Musonye.

He said the teams that have so far confirmed participation include; Rayon Sport, APR (Rwanda), Gor Mahia FC, Bandari FC (Kenya), Azam FC, KMC FC (Tanzania), KCCA FC, Proline FC (Uganda), KMKM FC (Zanzibar), AS Ports FC (Djibouti), Heegan FC (Somalia), TP Mazembe (DR Congo) and Green Buffaloes FC (Zambia). He made it clear that waiting for final confirmations from Motema Pembe (DR Congo) and Big Bullets FC (Malawi).

“We are glad to announce that preparations are in advanced stages with the Government of Rwanda, FERWAFA and CECAFA working very closely to ensure that we deliver a credible competition,” added Musonye.
