South Sudan appoint Besong new coach
Experienced Ashu Cyprian Besong will start his new job as head coach of South Sudan’s national team, Bright Star in the 2020 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers which start later this month.
The Cameroonian was unveiled on Friday at the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) headquarters in Juba.
Besong, a former Cameroon U-20 national coach signed a two -year contract which will see him handle the national team and also draw programs for the other national teams.
The coach who holds a UEFA PRO license from Portugal and another UEFA A from England said he has come to improve football in South Sudan.
“I can assure you that I will be committed to improve the national team,” said Besong. Francis Amin Michael, the President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) said they will continue to work hard and build football in the country and the national teams so that they can compete well against other teams in the continent.
Besong will start his work immediately preparing the team ahead of the first leg of the 2020 CHAN qualifier against Burundi.
Algerian – German born coach Ahcene Ait Abdelmalek was the last foreign tactician to handle the South Sudan national team before he quit in September last year.
