Atlabara FC held in CECAFA Kagame Cup opener

South Sudan’s representatives Atlabara FC kick started the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship with a 1-1 draw against KMC FC on Sunday.

Peter Sunday gave Atlabara FC the lead after only 5 minutes at the Kigali Stadium. The Tanzanian side fought back strongly to level matters after 29 minutes through Salim Aiyee.

The two team came all out in the second half creating several scoring opportunities, but failed to score. Atlabara FC will return to action on Tuesday against Rwanda side Rayon Sports FC.

In the other Group A game played on Sunday Rayon Sports FC shocked former African champions TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0. Jules Ulimwengu scored the lone goal after 3 minutes.

The defending champions Azam FC (Tanzania) also got to a winning start seeing off Mukura FC (Rwanda) 1-0. Iddi Selemani Ali scored after 77 minutes. Kenya’s Bandari FC settled for a 1-1 draw against KCCA FC (Uganda) in another game played at the Huye Stadium.

Abdallah Hassan gave Bandari FC the lead after 5 minutes before KCCA FC leveld through Saddan Ibrahim Juma on 66 minutes.

On Monday Rwanda’s APR FC return to action against Green Eagles FC (Zambia), while Heegan FC (Somalia) take on Proline FC (Uganda). In Group D KMKM FC (Zanzibar) will face AS Ports (Djibouti), while Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC battles KCCA FC.
