Atlabara FC bow out of regional CECAFA Kagame Cup

South Sudan Premier League champions Atlabara FC have bowed out of the on-going 2019 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Rwanda.

Atlabara FC lost their third game in Group A falling 6-1 to TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo in a match played on Saturday at the Kigali Stadium.

Jackson Muleka gave TP Mazembe the lead after only 3 minutes before Atlabara’s Philip Obeyond leveled matter in the 5th minute. The DR Congo side made it 2-1 after 15 minutes with Christian Kouame scoring.

In the second half Glody Lokonza and Muleka added more goals for the former African giants before Zambian international Rainford Kalaba netted a brace.

Atlabara drew 1-1 in the opening match against KMC FC before suffering a 2-0 loss to Rwanda’s Rayon Sports FC.

In the second Group A game Tanzania’s KMC FC shocked Rayon Sporst FC 1-0 with Hassan Kabunda scoring the lone goal after 36 minutes. Both TP Mazembe and Rayon Sports FC qualified for the quarter final stage.

Uganda’s KCCA FC and defending champions Azam FC (Tanzania) have also qualified for the quarter finals after finishing first and second respectively in Group B.

APR FC (Rwanda), Green Eagles FC (Zambia) and Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC are the other teams to make it to the last eight while the last spot will be decided on Sunday after two Group D matches have been played.
