Bright Star arrive in Burundi ahead of Africa Nations Championship qualifier

South Sudan’s national football team, Bright Star arrived in Bujumbura on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the 2020 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against hosts Burundi.

The team that has been camped in Uganda’s Industrial town of Jinja arrived aboard a Kenya Airways flight connecting from Nairobi.

“The boys are looking good and rearing to go on Saturday,” said new coach Cyprian Besong Ashu. The team was also boosted by the arrival of new assistant coach Petros Koukouras. The Greek born tactician was head coach of Ghana’s Pacific Heroes from March 2018.

The return leg will be played in Kampala on August 3rd. In-case South Sudan’s Bright Star eliminate Burundi they will face the winner between Uganda and Somalia in the last phase of the qualifiers.

The CHAN tournament is played by locally based players playing in the domestic leagues of the respective countries. Morocco are the defending champions.
