Bright Star step-up preparations in Khartoum ahead of tough qualifier

South Sudan’s Bright Star have stepped by preparations in Khartoum, Sudan ahead of the first leg clash of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea.

The Bright Star will host Equatorial Guinea on September 4th in Khartoum before they travel for the return leg to be played in Malabo on September 10th.

Ashu Cyprian Besong, the Bright Star tactician said on Wednesday that they have stepped up the training and the players who are present are doing well.

“I am happy with what is happening on the group here and the players are well motivated ahead of this game,” said Besong, former coach of Cameroon’s U-20 team.

Besong was appointed South Sudan’s head coach after the position had been vacant since September 2018, following the resignation of Algeria’s Ahcene Ait-Abdelmalek.

South Sudan’s Bright Star will face Equatorial Guinea in the preliminary round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers.

South Sudan is among the 28 teams in Africa that will battle in the preliminary round of the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The 14 teams that qualify from the preliminary stage will join the top 26 ranked CAF teams and will be drawn into ten groups of four teams each. The leaders of each group will qualify for the final round of the qualifiers.
