Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup: South Sudan to open against Tanzania

The 2019 Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup will take place November 14-23 in the Tanzanian capital Dar es salaam.

South Sudan who will be making their first appearance will open their campaign against defending champions Tanzania on November 14th.

According to communication by Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa), South Sudan is placed in Group A alongside Tanzania, Zanzibar and Burundi.

South Sudan will face Zanzibar in their second group game on November 16th before taking on Burundi in the final group game two days later.

Francis Amin Michael, President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) said they are happy that for the first time South Sudan will field a women’s team in the regional tournament. “We completed the South Sudan Women’s Cup last weekend and some good players have been identified,” added Amin.

The regional tournament will have eight teams; South Sudan, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
