2021 AFCON QUALIFIERS: Malawi to use home based players against South Sudan

The Malawi Flames will use only locally based players in their opening 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against South Sudan on November 13th in Blantyre.

Meck Mwase, the head coach made it clear that they can get results with the players who have been summoned.

“We only need to start well against South Sudan before we travel to Uganda for the second Group B match,” added the coach.

The coach released his players from camp for weekend Premier League engagements before they return on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, South Sudan’s head coach Ashu Cyprian Besong has said he is happy with the response of his team ahead of the match in Malawi.

“The players have stepped up and their fitness levels are good. We have a few days before the game and now we are working on a few things,” added the coach.

Besong made it clear that they have a game plan that will help them get a good result away to Malawi. The Bright Star will host Burkina Faso on November 17th in Khartoum, Sudan.

The 2021 Total Afcon will be hosted by Cameroon. It will be the second time the Afcon attracts 24 teams.
