Visiting South Sudan vital – Ahmad

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad has said his visit to South Sudan is very important since they will identify where the country needs more assistance in football development.

Ahmad together with the FIFA Secretary General and FIFA Special Delegate to Africa, Fatma Samoura together withj some CAF executive members Hani Abou Rida (Egypt) and Suleiman Waberi (also President Djibouti Football Federation) arrived in Juba this morning on a one-day visit.

“I am happy to be here to see what the SSFA President Francis and his team are doing and where we can further help them,” said Ahmad on arrival at the Juba International Airport.

Ahmad and the delegation later met the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr Nadia Arop Dudi at her offices. The Minister thanked the delegation for the visit to South Sudan. “We are kindly request for more help to a young country like South Sudan because we are also using football to bring about peace and unity,” added the Minister.

Samoura said although FIFA is already supporting South Sudan football, they are determined to look out for other areas where they can help. “In future FIFA and CAF will discuss a road map on how to help South Sudan further,” added Samoura.

The delegation also toured the Juba National Stadium that is under renovation under the FIFA Forward Programme and visited the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) headquarters.

Francis Amin Michael, President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) thanked the team for coming to South Sudan. “Coming to see what we are doing on the ground is a very good indication because we shall get first hand advise. We are happy that Ahmad and Samoura have visited South Sudan,” added Amin.
