The world
Football body, FIFA will inspect the on going renovation works at the Juba
National Stadium in May this year.
“I will be in South Sudan in May to inspect the work at the Juba National Stadium,” said FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer Véron Mosengo-Omba in Kinshasa, DR Congo last week.
Mosengo-Omba
made it clear that they are happy that South Sudan decided to use part of their
Forward funds to renovate the Juba National Stadium. “It is difficult to
develop and promote football when you lack a good Stadium,” reasoned Mosengo-Omba
at the Kin Plaza Hotel.
The South
Sudan Football Association (SSFA) embarked on a renovation exercise of the Juba
Stadium into a 7,000-seater capacity last year. The renovation was expected to
conclude in April this year, but heavy rains late last year delayed the
process.
During the
launch of the project last year, SSFA President, Francis Amin Michael said once
the renovation is complete it will help South Sudan promote football better. “A
better Stadium will mean more football played and several sponsors coming on
board.
SSFA working
together with the government of South Sudan are also trying to ensure several
other stadiums are developed in the country.
