Head coach
Cyprian Besong Ashu has today named a 27-man squad that will start preparations
ahead of a Group B 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) back-to-back qualifier
ties against Uganda.
Uganda will
host the Bright Star on March 28th at the Mandela National Stadium,
Namboole, while the return fixture will be played March 31st in
Nairobi, Kenya.
The squad
includes 13 foreign based players and 14 featuring in the local League. The
technical team had hoped that the team trains in Kenya before heading to Uganda,
but the current situation of the Coronavirus scare could bring some changes.
The Bright
Star opened their campaign with a 1-0 away defeat to Malawi before falling 2-1
to Mali in their second game played at the Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum, Sudan.
Uganda top
the Group with 4 points, with one better goal advantage ahead of Burkina Faso
who also have the same number of points. Malawi Flames are in third position
with 3 points, while South Sudan are yet to get a point.
The best two
teams from each group will qualify for the 2021 AFCON to take place in
Cameroon.
