SSFA Cancels Premier League Season
The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has today cancelled the 2020 South Sudan Premier League.
In an emergency meeting attended by SSFA’s Board of Directors chaired by the President Francis Michael Amin it was decided that the Premier League 2020 season is cancelled.
The development comes as a result of the challenging times because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which has greatly affected sports around the world.
SSFA also negated all local football leagues in the country with no relegation or upgrading of any team from different levels of the league.
Daniel Alul, the SSFA spokesperson said the development means South Sudan will not have a team participate in the CAF Champions League. He said only Alrabita Juba FC who won the South Sudan Cup will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Three weeks ago the Confederation of African Football (CAF) asked all Member Associations to write and reveal their plans for the respective tournaments amidst the COVID-19 challenge.
