FIFA Promises to Support South Sudan Women’s Football

The General Secretary of International Federation of Football Association (FIFA), Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura promises to support women’s football in the country.
Mrs. Fatma and her accompanying delegation arrived in Juba yesterday, she inspected the construction of Juba National Football Stadium on her arrival to Juba – she also witnessed a preparation match for the Women’s Senior National Team, where she pledged FIFA’s support for women’s football.
Addressing the spectators, Mrs. Fatma appreciated South Sudan Football Association for promoting women’s football in the country; she confirmed that her visit is a fact finding visit to identify the challenges affecting South Sudan Football in general and women’s football in particular and also to inspect the rehabilitation progress of Juba National Football Stadium. She said their discussion with the government was very fruitful – saying the government through its Ministry of Youth and Sports has promised to jointly work with FIFA and SSFA towards addressing the challenges hindering development of football in the country.
She assures that FIFA is going to support South Sudan Football Association to develop football across the country more especially at the grassroots.
The Chief Women Football Officer of FIFA, Mrs. Sarai Bareman expressed her happiness, acknowledging SSFA for uplifting women’s football. She reassured that FIFA will stand with SSFA to achieve the goals of women’s football in South Sudan.
The President of SSFA, Mr. Augustino Maduot, appreciated the FIFA General Secretary for her visit, commenting that the visit is very crucial because it has given the General Secretary a chance to observe what is on ground in South Sudan regarding football. He told the delegation that women’s football has become the first priority for SSFA because it has been not promoted, assuring that SSFA will continue to commit its effort towards elevating women’s football in South Sudan. He appreciated FIFA’s support in developing football, especially women’s football in the country, urging FIFA to continue supporting development of football in the country.
The match game was organized between Team A and B of the Women’s Senior National Team to honor Mrs. Fatma Samoura’s visit and also as a preparation match ahead of its participation in the forthcoming COSAFA Competition in South Sudan – the game ended 2-1 in favor of Team A.
