Today, on January 13, 2025, a historic partnership was officially launched between the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) and MTN South Sudan. This three-year collaboration, backed by a generous USD 300,000 cheque for the South Sudan Premier League, promises to elevate the sport in our nation.

The event was attended by notable figures including Mr. Augustino Maduot, President of SSFA, and Mr. Ali Monzer, CEO of MTN South Sudan. Their presence symbolizes a commitment to fostering football talent and unity in South Sudan. In his keynote address, Mr. Maduot expressed gratitude to MTN for its pivotal role in establishing our first-ever Premier League, emphasizing its importance for the growth of football in our country. He also shared plans for a Women’s South Sudan Premier League, urging supporters to follow MTN’s example.

Mr. Ali Monzer highlighted that this partnership marks a new dawn for South Sudan, celebrating our rich talent and the transformative power of sports. MTN is dedicated to supporting local initiatives, ensuring that our athletes receive the necessary resources to thrive.

Mr. Robert Zechariah, the SSFA Chairperson for the Investment and Marketing Committee, commended the SSFA leadership for their efforts in launching the Premier League. He extended heartfelt thanks to MTN for their unwavering support, which is crucial for elevating sports in South Sudan. He said the launch aligns with SSFA’s strategic plan to increase local player participation, and he encouraged MTN and other supporters to invest in the forthcoming Women’s Premier League.

Moreover, Mr. Albino Kuek, SSFA Spokesperson, welcomed MTN’s commitment, stating that the league will significantly enhance player development, preparing them for global competition. He emphasized that this partnership will be a lasting legacy for South Sudanese football.

Finally, Mr. Richard Tokore, representing the clubs, expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of both SSFA and MTN. He is optimistic that the South Sudan Premier League will soon stand alongside prestigious leagues like the South African League.
