The fifth round of 2023 AFCON qualifiers is fast approaching, and South Sudan’s senior national team is gearing up to face The Gambia in a crucial match on June 14th, 2023. The game will take place at the Canal Suez stadium in Egypt, and both teams will be looking to secure a win to boost their chances of qualifying for the continental showpiece.

South Sudan is a relatively young team and has not yet established a solid reputation in African football. However, they have been making steady progress in recent years and will be hoping to cause an upset against The Gambia, who are currently ranked higher in the FIFA world rankings. The first leg of their meeting ended in a 1-0 victory for The Gambia, played on June 4th 2022 at Stade Lat Dior, Senegal.
