Bright Star took Togo by Storm at Home to Split Points

Togo narrowly escaped a defeat from South Sudan’s Bright Star at their home ground today in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group B first-leg match.

The Togolese National Team’s striker, Khaled Narey managed to net a goal for his team in the 61st minute, giving them hope. However, Bright Star never took any slightest opportunity for granted, with several attempts on target, Bright Star exerted more pressure on its opponent to earn an equalizer own goal by Togolese Defensive Midfielder, Rogar Aholou in the 68th minute of the game, ending the match in a one-all draw.

Bright Star’s Head Coach, Nicolas Dupuis applauds his players for exhibiting determination and team spirit to share points with host Togo in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

“I am very grateful to the players for the great enthusiasm and team spirit they displayed this evening, we have good players and if we continue with the same spirit, I am very sure that we shall be a great team in one or two years to come,” says Coach Nicolas Dupuis during after match press conference.

Despite a one-all draw, Coach Nicolas had partially fulfilled his stand of claiming the whole three points.

South Sudan next encounter is against Sudan in Juba on the 11th of June 2024.
Togo will face Bright Star on their return leg on October, 13 next year in Juba, South Sudan.
