The South Sudan U-20 team will face their counterparts from Egypt in an international friendly match on February 10, 2023 in Cairo.

The two teams will use the match to prepare ahead of the U-20 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Victor Lawrence Lual, the Secretary General of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) confirmed that the team will travel to Cairo on February 6th before the friendly match against Egypt is played four days later.

“We thought it best to have our team have some friendly matches before the tournament starts. We shall also have two more build-up matches for the team and one of the teams they will play is Zambia,” added Lual.

South Sudan that will be making it’s first appearance in the AFCON U-20 have been placed in Group B alongside Uganda, The Central African Republic and Congo Brazzaville.

The tournament which will have 12 teams will run from February 19th to March 11th, 2023.

The teams that reach the semi final stage will also qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 to be held in Indonesia.
